PREMIER LEAGUE IS BACK

Are Liverpool favourites for the title?

The wait is finally over. It’s been a long hard summer however, the beautiful game is back on our screens and we are here for the excitement. The premier league is back where it belongs, the focal point of our weekend and the light of our footballing conversations. We anticipate this moment year in year out and we will continue to do so for eternity. Yes, we’ve had the Club World Cup (congratulations to Chelsea for that epic victory against PSG), we’ve even had the Women’s Euro championship (massive shoutout to the Lionesses for bringing it home again…..) BUT nothing beats the frolics of the premier league (well, maybe the World Cup!).

Movers and Shakers

The biggest transfer this season has got to be Wirtz’s signing with Liverpool for a Premier League record of £119million from Bayer Leverkusen. His acquisition adds to the dept of Liverpool’s already assembled squad which is why they can effortlessly be regarded as favourites. The biggest saga this summer transfer window involves Liverpool yet again and their interest in acquiring the service of ‘want away’ Newcastle striker, Alexander Isak (he’s had enough and wants to move on….can you blame him?).

Tottenham Hotspur go into the season under the stewardship of Thomas Frank who has since taken over the helm at White Hart Lane after the inevitable sacking of Ange Postecoglou at the end of last season. Frank has already make his mark bringing in the likes of Kudus and a new no nonsense direct approach to playing football (a far cry from the stubborn philosophy of his predecessor). Kudus has been in fine form and fastly becoming a fan favourite. Romero has now been elevated to club captain status after the departure of Spurs legend Heung Min Son. Tottenham will be looking for a much needed league improvement and under Thomas Frank, this is certainly possible.

Manchester United have also revamped their squad with notable additions being Mbeumo and Cuhna respectively. They have also signed Sesko (a long admired Arsenal target) to lead the line as their main striker and will be hoping to also finish in a respectable position. Arsenal have brought in Gyorkeres to address their forward issues as has Chelsea with the transfers of Pedro and Delap respectively. Jack Grealish is now on a season long loan at Everton, however, that decision may be a career suicide for Jack but only time will tell.

The biggest mover this term has to be Marcus Rashford’s shocking move to Spanish giants Barcelona. Nobody saw this coming, however, this is almost a last chance saloon for Rashford but it is an opportunity he is willing to take and grab with both hands, so good luck to him.

Who wins the league?

Last season, Liverpool were the team to beat and eventual winners of the league. This season, Liverpool appear to have made the right acquisitions and improved their squad to another level. Players like Ekitike and Wirtz will make Liverpool undeniable favourites once again. Therefore, the question is who will be their nearest competition this term? Arsenal, Man City and possibly Chelsea can stake a claim to that title.

Manchester City have also been busy in the transfer market and have made some eye-catching signings also. Manager Pep Guardiola will want to make an early impression and will be seeking to apply pressure on Liverpool from the word go. This season, there will be no room for complacency and City will be expected to end the season with major honours. As for Chelsea and Arsenal, they have both addressed their striker issues, with Chelsea acquiring Delap and Joao Pedro whilst the Gunners signed Gyorkeres from Sporting Lisbon respectively.

Chelsea have been the most impressive side during pre-season and they’ve also enjoyed early success by defeating PSG in the Club World Cup final in emphatic style. Therefore, Chelsea should be considered as serious title contenders to Liverpool’s hopes of  back to back titles. Arsenal on the other hand may finish in the top four but their aspirations for their first Premier League title in donkey years may still just be a pipe dream (just cannot see it happening this season…sorry folks!).

Relegation candidates

Unfortunately for newly promoted sides from the championship, it is always a mammoth task trying to avoid relegation and this year is no different. Sunderland and Burnley will most likely be relegated and an argument could be made for Brentford to also suffer the same fate. Brentford will definitely find it tough to stay in the premiership this season giving the fact that they have lost Thomas Frank and the entire coaching staff to Spurs as well as key player Bryan Mbeumo who now plays for Manchester United. History has proven that when a club is harvested of its key component, the chances of relegation become an ever more reality.

Rest In Peace

Football has had to say goodbye to Liverpool and Portuguese international Diogo Jota and his brother Adre Silva who sadly passed away on 3 July 2025 in a fatal car accident whilst in Spain. They will be missed and forever remembered.

The League is back!!!!
