Sonny Son’s Southampton as Spurs blow Saints AWAY

UNSTOPPABLE PERFORMANE

That’s more like it. Tottenham put in a memorable performance against Southampton that will be enough to forget about their opening day loss against Everton. Harry Kane and Heung-min Son both put in performances worthy of the man of the match accolade. In a weekend that saw Bale return to the Lane and the addition of Reguilon, what better way for the existing players to welcome their new team mates.

Danny Ings put the Saints ahead in the 32nd minute with a neatly taken finish after getting in behind the Tottenham defence. I am sure Spurs fans would have had a moment of dejavu crossing their mind. However, Son and Kane had other ideas for in store for the visitors and put on a masterclass of a performance. Son drew level for Spurs in the first half injury time before adding a second after the restart in the 47th minute of play. He added another in the 64th to guarantee the match ball before capping off his performance with his 4th goal of the day in the 73rd minute.

Kane also got in on the act by grabbing a goal in the 82nd minute although Ings pulled one back for Southampton via a penalty late in the 90th minute. Spurs where not to be denied and deservedly won the game 5-2. Whilst Son bagged 4 goals, a lot of credit has to be given to Kane for setting up all 4 goals for his team mate. Kane showed another dynamic to his game after his was able to unlock the Saints defence time after time. Things are on the up for Tottenham and if that energy and willingness to work hard carries on with a level of consistency then they’ll have a good shout for a top 4 finish.

Manchester United also began their campaign at the weekend by losing 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace. Townsend opened the scoring for Palace in the 7th minute before Zaha put them two up in the 74th minute via a controversial retaken penalty. De Gea was adjudged to have been off his line when he saved Ayew’s effort before the referee ordered a retake which was duly dispatched by Zaha. The ex United player added a second goal in the 85th minute giving Crystal Palace a 3-1 victory. United’s goal was scored by new signing Van de Beek, whom many felt showed have started the game. Manchester United are being dragged left right and centre for their inability to sign top players this window and it’s not looking too good at Old Trafford. What will Ole do? Well there’s not much he can do as a Manager, he is still at the wheel.

In the other games at the weekend, Everton won 5-2 against West Brom with Calvert-Lewin bagging a hattrick. Leeds beat Fulham 4-3 in what was a very entertaining game. Leeds look like a team that’s full of goals and very attack minded (I predict a top 10 finish). Arsenal were lucky in their London derby game against West Ham after Nketiah scored the winner in the 85th minute. You have to feel for West Ham, they definitely played well and deserved more from the game. On the west side of London, Chelsea hosted Liverpool and were chasing the game especially after the sending off of Christensen in the 45th minute. Kepa made a blunder in the goal gifting Mane a great opportunity to score with the Reds winning 2-0 (It wouldn’t surprise me if Lampard drops Kepa for the next league game).
