The Premier League returns
The premier league returned after the international break and if anyone thought there would be an air of lethargy are greatly mistaken. The players returned to the park full of beans and energy. And where better to start the round up than the London derby game between foes Spurs and Chelsea at the national stadium.
Tottenham were the epitome of energy and directness whilst Chelsea looked lost and dis-organised. Manager Pochettino gave his players one instruction and that was attack attack attack. The players took heed to this and produced what was arguably their best performance this season.
Remember, although Spurs had won their previous 6 games on the bounce, their performances have not always been to the standard their fans have become accustomed to (they’ve been rubbish….let’s be honest). However, that all changed on Saturday. Spurs played with intent and applied pressure on a Chelsea back four already dreaming of Christmas.
Dele Alli put the home side ahead with a header from a set piece before Kane added a second with a clever shot from outside the box. Spurs continued their impressive display and were rewarded in the second half when Son went on a magical run before slotting the ball in the bottom corner to send Tottenham 3 goals ahead (the fans went nuts). Chelsea got a late consolation through Giroud with the game ending 3-1.
Fulham also registered a victory with a well deserved 3-2 over Southampton under new boss Claudio Ranieri (can he repeat the heroics and win the league next year, who knows). Manchester City maintained their hold at the top of the league after demolishing West Ham United 4-0. Their closest rival at the top Liverpool, also won 3-0 against Watford.
Manchester United were frustrated and held to a goalless draw at home to Crystal Palace leaving them 7th in the league and away from the leading pack (not sure what’s happening at Old Trafford but the fans are definitely not happy). Arsenal beat Bournemouth 2-1 with that man Aubameyang getting the winner whilst Newcastle beat Burnley 2-1.
That Son Magic!!!
